Are jet skis easy to operate?
Operating a jet ski is relatively straightforward, but always know the manufacturer’s guidelines before riding. Start by attaching the safety lanyard to your wrist or clothing. Then hop onto the jet ski and start it up following the manufacturer’s instructions. Adjust the throttle so you can get used to controlling it, then increase as desired once comfortable. Make sure always to stay well clear of other watercraft and keep an eye out for any underwater obstacles that may impact your ride. Always wear adequate safety gear such as life jackets, additional clothing layers and eye protection when necessary. Do you need a license to operate a jet ski?
Yes, you do need a license in order to operate a jet ski in Australia. In order to get a license, you will need to attend a Boating Safety Course and get your Recreational Boat Driving License. You may also need to pass an exam or complete logbook hours depending on the state you're in. Additionally, anyone who wants to operate a jet ski must be over 16 years old and wear life jackets while operating the vessel.
